"CUP OF CANDY is sensational. The surprising subject matter activates cheerful commotion at first sight. The presentation of a child's treat in the visual conditions and setting usually reserved for lofty or serious articles, elevates its stature and prompts respect and appreciation at long last. A fancy, plastic container, which is filled to capacity with bright balls of candy and is wrapped with colourful stripes and attractive swirls, dares to sit dangerously within reach. The tantalizing, red goblet on top is balanced against the strategically important though unfortunate, yellow ball left outside, which considers rolling itself off the edge for attention. The gray shelf neutralizes and calms the energetic palette, which is managed with beautiful success and harmony. Perfect, tidy lettering, small chips in the shelf, smooth and luscious, round candy and the convincing, transparent lid are proof of the careful devotion and ample skill that produced this striking and spectacular painting."
